Lavender equine aromatherapy is the practice of using lavender plant extracts and essential oils (Lavandula angustifolia) to help calm horses and reduce their physical stress.
How It Works
  • Inhalation and absorption: Active molecules like linalool enter the horse's system through the nasal passages and skin, affecting the nervous system.
  • Physiological relief: Studies show that smelling lavender lowers stress hormone levels, such as salivary cortisol, during high-anxiety events.
  • Behavioral support: The scent helps steady a horse's heart rate and nervous response during triggering activities.
    Common Uses
  • Transport: Applied during horse trailer rides to ease travel anxiety.
  • Handling: Used before vet visits, dental work, hoof trimmings, or clipping.
  • Environment: Placed near stalls or on hay bags in chaotic settings like rodeos.
    Application Methods
  • Direct sniffing: Placing a few diluted drops of PEACE + CALM Lavender essential oil on a palm for the horse to inhale.
  • Strategic placement: Wiping or placing Wooly Soles Equine safe dilution on an item in the stables or yards where your equines may sniff as needed or near the noseband, chest, or stall area (avoiding eyes and ears).

Note: Check competition rules first, as some equestrian organizations ban lavender oil during events
